Generation 1 - Snow: Chapter 4 Part 2

The next morning, Logan and I woke up beside one another. Our kissing session on the cliffs didn't end when we got home. I'm not sure how long we were there on the couch, drinking in each others' presence, but by morning both of us were on the floor, coffee table pushed aside and huddled beneath a spare blanket from the dresser.

He looked even more peaceful as he slept. Logan, my...where we really what I thought we were now? Fiances? It was a large pill to swallow. Here I was, still a young adult and not yet finished with my college education, and I was engaged to be married. What would my parents think? What would my old self have thought about all this? I had only been in Sugar Valley for about 10 months and already had someone who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with...

Was that right?

I shook my head and pressed my face against his shoulder. With his heart thudding in his chest, each beat touching my skin, it certainly felt right. Did it matter if I was young, or if we weren't even adults? Did it matter at all, when we had each other?

When you love someone, that's all you need. Everything you could ever want lies in those three words you feel were made just for you. I love you.

The art room I took many of my classes in was locked up on weekends, but our teacher happened to be  an eccentric, hippie of a Berry that believed in "never putting a lock on your personal expression."

Basically, she left the key under the threshold on Friday night and whoever wanted it had the entire studio to themselves.

I longed for a place just like it in my own home. The canvases propped against the back, paint splattered wall. The wooden easels that had served as the supporting arms for dozens of ideas, and the brushes and oils that had nourished the images of the creator's mind until they were brought to life.

Dressed in my typical, Saturday-painting attire, I grabbed my paints and prepared them on the palette. I took one of the canvases from the floor and secured it on the easel. I wasn't sure what I planned on creating, or if I would even create anything at all. I just knew that I had a lot of emotion running through my veins, and I needed to express it somehow.

So I started to paint.

I focused only on the smooth tip of the brush, and let my mind wander. I thought about Logan, of course, and the feeling that had overwhelmed me when he asked me to be his forever. I also thought of the rush of excitement I experienced as we sat together on the couch and kissed, physical displays of our love. Then there was the soft, warm security of the night as I drifted off to sleep in his arms.

It wasn't long before I had painted an abstract design, just smooth curves and a few floral patterns overlapping one another. It wasn't anything too spectacular, but it was decent enough to turn in as extra credit. After putting it behind the teacher's desk and marking it with a Sweety Note, I began to clean up and prepare to leave.

It was just as I was about to walk out the door that my cell phone rang. I looked at the screen and excitedly answered.

"Bibi!"

"Snowy!" she squealed, and ended with a giggle. "How are you?"

"I'm great!" I didn't want to tell her why just yet. That was something I wanted to share in person. "How about you? How's the honeymoon?" Bran's parents had offered to fly him and their future daughter-in-law to Sugar Cane Islands for their ceremony and a two week honeymoon, all expenses paid. Bibiane had begged me to come along, and even though I would have loved to, I just couldn't miss class for that long.

"The honeymoon was fantastic! But the ceremony itself...oh Berry, you should have been there. It's okay though, I have five million pictures. I'll be showing them to you tomorrow."

"What?!"

"We're coming home a few days early," she said. "I just missed you so much! Plus I was starting to feel like a mooch off of Bran's parents. They're so sweet, and this is sort of like their vacation too. I figured Bran and I would leave them be and head back to Sugar Valley. You haven't been up to too much trouble, have you?"

I laughed. "Hardly. I can't wait to see you!"

"Well, we just finished dinner and are headed back to our room to pack. Our plane leaves tonight and we should be getting home mid-day. See you then, Snowy!"

I smiled down at the phone after she hung up. Bibi was coming back, and boy was she going to be surprised at the news I had to share.

After I got home and changed, I was starved. Apparently Logan was too, and he begged for me to make some of my "famous" waffles.

Honestly, they were the only thing I knew how to cook well. I'd watched my grandmother make them a dozen times. They were just another part of home to me, but Logan thought they were the best things to ever grace his table.

He even wrapped his arms around my waist as I waited for the waffles to brown, and even though I pretended that I was absorbed in my cooking, I loved it.

It wasn't until after I'd finished the dishes that I figured out the cause.

"Snow, angel, there's something I want to give you."
"Really? What is it?" I asked, totally oblivious.

He laughed and nodded before taking a step back. "I sort of got so caught up in making yesterday perfect that I forgot the most important thing. So I'm giving it to you now."

I sure did pick a winner, didn't I? Just look at that face. I knew right then and there I was the luckiest girl alive.

My eyes widened at the site of the ring. It was magnificent. So beautiful and so big. The logical part of me wanted to step back and ask Logan how he ever afforded such an amazing piece of jewelry, but the hopelessly-in-love part dominated (as it has a tendency of doing) and I stuck out my hand and let him slide the band onto my finger.

"Logan, sweetheart, this is just so beautiful! Oh my gosh..."

"You really like it? I hope it's not too flashy...I just wanted to get you the best."

"It's perfect. I love it. Thank you."

"I love you, Snow."

"I love you, too, Logan. More than you'll ever know."
